Young Warriors: Stories of Strength

This book is filled with 15 short stories all with the theme "Young Warrior" but warrior being a loose term. Basically 15 short stories on how varioud young people overcame hurdles in front of them.

Each story in and of itself a morsel of something bigger that I wish I could read. These would be ideal for kids around the age of 7-10 who still enjoy being read stories before they go to bed except maybe 'Devil Wind' by India Edghill which is quite dark and morbid.

As an adult I find collections of short stories painful to read. It's a bit like going to those stereotypical french restaurants you hear about where you pay +$50 for a two bite morsel. There is not enough. It may be beautiful and poignant and rich and high quality but you are simply unable to enjoy it properly with only two mouthfuls.

Each individual story is worth at least an 8/10 on their own as a short story.

This book as a whole however as an adult I simply could not appreciate it. I don't regret reading them but it left me feeling itchy because though the story is complete, i am not able to immerse myself deeper.

So as a whole I give this 3.5/10 but I think that this score reflects more on my reading preferences than the quality of the innards.

Tamora Pierce collection now complete

Yup this is the last of them, at least until she releases a new book.

Next I will be reviewing books by Laurell K. Hamilton. She also writes books that are good for empowering women but that's where the similarity to Pierce ends. These next reviews will be anything but child friendly.
