I was at Kroger and saw their lactose-free ice cream on sale for $5 for 2. There weren't many flavors, and only one I really liked, so I picked up the Vividly Vanilla to complete the pair.
I'm not a big vanilla ice cream fan, primarily because most ice cream makers skimp on the vanilla or use the fake stuff, so the flavor just isn't good enough. This ice cream was no exception. It screamed "average" from the first bite. Every ice cream should be smooth and creamy but if it doesn't taste really nice, it's just another plain scoop. My handy chocolate syrup solved the problem.
I didn't notice the OTHER problem until the next day. You see, I'm not just lactose intolerant - it's severe. It only takes a SMALL amount of lactose to produce loads of gas in my guts, and that's what happened. I was quite uncomfortable the next day! SO, it's is LOW in lactose, but it definitely is NOT free of it.
To be fair, I've tried other brands of lactose-free foods and discovered that they'd skimped on the lactase enzyme.
If you don't have severe lactose intolerance like me, and you don't mind a somewhat mild flavor, go ahead and try this. If you're troubled by even the smallest amount of lactose then make sure to pop a lactase in your mouth with the first spoonful.
