I do understand there is a reason for the flag, but misuse of it is wrong in my opinion and we all have a mute, flags should not be used for subjective reasons.
But like you said its all oppinions.
It just how whatsup and i interact, its all in fun and we both often agree to disagree.

Eh. There is def a place for frivolity.
It's just sometimes I wanna read something a little more serious, and I guess flagging keeps those pesky shitposters in their place and away from clogging up my screen.
Kinda like how high property taxes and arbitrary zoning helps keep the riffraff out of my artificially pristine neighbourhood!

thats what a mute button is for, other wise your trying to protect others from stuff they dont want to be protected from because you want to flag something you subjectivly dont like.

IDK i guess i just look at it differntly, if something bothers me so much i cant handle seeing it ill mute it, no point for me to flag it because other people might be enjoying it and i dont think i have the right to choose what others can and cant see on steemit.

I personally ignore what I don't like. I don't believe I've flagged... maybe once...
The thing about flagging is it can sort hamfisredly counteract up voting if for some reason you want to hit the dislike button.
True spam is not such an issue because I believe the network limits your bandwidth based on your steak, so things like floods and DDOS is very very hard to pull off.
Dan Larimer did an interview on Ivan on Tech's YouTube podcast that's very interesting and it talks about some of the technical aspects of this.
i have a problem telling when someone is sarcastic because of some of the stuff people have said to me on this platform in the past.
As for dan, you should check out his original postings when steemit was new about how he fully supports bullying and ostrizitation by way of money till people do what he wants and that is why the system is how it is.

im not saying he isnt badass and smart and stuff, just saying some of his views on freedom of speech and people not having the right to choose what they want for them self are things i have tried to talk to him about because i disagree with them. but he just resorted to flagging me a bunch and ignoring the questions.

He did come across as overly confident in that interview... not arrogant, just like he had done his research and gotten rly rly convinced that graphene dpos is the only long term solution for blockchain scaling, governance, and security.

it might be the right word for it, tbh after his early stuff about his ideas on making people self censor i kinda just started tuning him out. on the tech side hes smart as hell its just his ideas of what he wants the world to become and his ideas oh how we can do it i disagree with.

A right to say what you want isn't the same as saying, I have a right to rewards. It all gets kind of murky when you add money to the situation.
I see upvotes as a chance to say... I want to see more of this.
I see not voting as saying.. I don't care.
I see downvoting/flagging as a way to use my stake to say: I don't like this.
It just isn't that big of a deal.
its a problem when some people are getting rewarded for the same thing others are getting punished for, especiall when one person is making aalot of money and the other is making none.
The flag was put in place for a reason, alt accounts, bots, copy pasta, and child porn. people making a bunch of accounts and self upvoting to generate money and originally bots wernt suposta be on this platform. they drought in the flag to stop people from making 100 accounts and using them all to self upvote, the flag was suposta be the equlizer, but it got flipped by the whales doing what the flag was put into place to stop and then moved onto using the flag as a weapon.
the flag was never intended to be used by people as a way to remove revenue on somones post because they subjectivly "dont like it". that is a whole idea that came about after the fact.
If people didnt abuse the flag like it was a exploit in the system i might have a differnt look on it but thats not what i have whitnessed on this platform.
I agreed we have a dysfunctional society. The largest accounts were supposed to police each other. They aren't.
I don't think that is a problem with the flags, but I do think the abusive flag behavior of some of them contribute. What was worst though is that nobody with any stake called them out on it and gave them some of their own medicine.
I would love to see a full on crazy flag war. Just to get everyone used to the idea that flags are just part of the game.
