Method

  1. Pick and wash the long-grain rice. Add to plenty of boiling salted water.

  2. Stir to the boil and simmer gently until tender, for approximately 12-15 minutes.

  3. Wash well under running water, drain and place on a sieve and cover with a cloth.

  4. Place on a tray in a moderate oven or in the hot plate until hot.

  5. Serve in a vegetable dish separately

A lot of things can be combined with white rice once you mastered making it. Curries, meats, and spices are a great starting point. One can also stir fry, add chopped vegetables, and even leftovers from last night's dinner to turn it to a complete breakfast. If you're the type of cook with lots of time to experiment, rice is a fun springboard to jump off from.
