Steem Riddle of the Week #9: Wandering Monster
Last weeks riddle was solved by @kryzec, congrats to him for claiming the SBD prize! The solution is posted here: https://steemit.com/riddle/@droopy/steem-riddle-of-the-week-8-lies-truth-and-chaos-solution-revealed-prize-awarded
This week, I'm trying something new. I'm asking that everyone who posts a solution, obfuscate it with ROT13 using this link: http://md5decrypt.net/en/Rot13/ That way others can more easily take part without worrying about spoilers. Only obfuscated posts can win the prize!
This weeks riddle goes as follows:
There is a sequence of 11 caves in a straight line. A wondering monster has been terrorizing the town and the king has put a large bounty on its head. Each night a wandering monster chooses one of the 11 caves to sleep in. The monster never sleeps in the same cave two nights in a row and always sleeps in a cave either one to the left or to the right of where he slept the previous night.
Each night, you can check exactly one cave. If you find the monster sleeping you can kill it and claim the bounty. If you don't find the monster you can try again the next night. However, the king has decreed that the bounty is only good if the monster is killed within 20 days.
Is there a strategy that guarantees that you successfully find the monster in 20 nights or less?
Prize
Again, I'm asking that everyone who posts a solution, obfuscate it with ROT13 using this link: http://md5decrypt.net/en/Rot13/. If your comment isn't obfuscated, you aren't eligible for the prize.
The first person to upvote and comment with a valid obfuscated!!!! solution (as decided by me and only me) prior to this post paying out will win 1SBD! The prize will be paid out right after the rewards from the post are paid.

Good idea, but I don't think that that works. Consider the following sequence
I'll write what cave you look in and then what cave the monster is in using parenthesis, so 6 (7) means you look in 6 and the monster is in 7.
6(7), 8(6), 10(7), 1(6), 3(7), 5(6), 7(5), 9(6), 11(7), 2(6), 4(7), 6(8), 8(7), 10(6), 1(5), 3(6),5(7), 7(6), 9(7), 1(6)
That is 20 days. Your strategy will find him a lot of the time if he moves randomly, but it is not guaranteed.
Is there a runner up prize too? Don't want to sound greedy but was just curious.
Loved the idea of NO SPOILERS.
Hmm, I'll think about that, I like the idea but anyone who wanted that runner up prize could just decode and copy the winners answer with the current system, so I'd need a slightly different approach.
What you can do is that to consider only the oldest post only.
well I dont think that there could be one perfect strategy and with every answer there will be exceptions of situations where it wont work. Hop mine is the best till the rewards come and I end up winning. These riddles are fun. Thanks
I want to opt out of a reward for this one (since I got it last week) but also want to send in my answer to you. Is there anywhere that I can send it (steemit chat, discord, etc) so that you can check my answer. I am curious if it is correct, and I promise I won't tell anyone if it is!
Go to http://travistidwell.com/jsencrypt/demo/ and reply back with a public key (keep the private key private)
I will encrypt a link to my answer with the public key and reply back here, you can then decrypt it with your private key and go to the link. It will go to a google drive document with my answer, if you want to see it that is. I will also donate 1SBD to winner
That is very generous of you, thanks! Public key is below:

Should do it. Copy and paste into the encrypted and and click button, should work

google doc worked and that was a very nice write-up, but I think you are missing a possible strategy. give it a bit more thought :)
I know my answer is wrong btw, I just wanted to take a completely different and more fun approach to the question since it was one where you could look at honest probabilities.

No worries. I really like riddles and not many people do them on steemit anymore. Figured I should support the ones I can find
hah, sneaky!
