The banks are currently using Ripple technology as a way to send USD, Euro, Etc. overseas, something that it would take days to do, a few years ago. Ripple has a native asset, XRP:
Countries have been making Cryptocurrencies legal tender and if you use them, you wont have to pay taxes in countries like Japan and Australia (in July it becomes legal tender in Australia); in Japan it's already legal to use Cryptocurrencies as legal tender. I think that because Ripple has been working with banks, it's native asset would probably be preferred over other digital assets in the future if Cryptocurrencies were given a legal tender status.
There is a worry in the Cryptocurrency community that XRP is centralized, but the people at Ripple claim that they will be "more decentralized than Bitcoin":

The Ripple project is actually older than Bitcoin itself. The original implementation was created by Ryan Fugger in 2004, the intent being to create a monetary system that was decentralized and could effectively empower individuals and communities to create their own money. Do you like XRP? Do you think there's something negative about it? Tell me what's on your mind in the comments.
Good information!! thanks
Could be but i think that people are trying to catch the flow with ethers right now, because of the fame it got on the back of Bitcoin and because it has a lower value and odds to increase are very big so people want to invest on it better than to risk on Bitcoin (they are affraid that the value might drop).
All the crypto focus on decentralisation, but ripple is the only one that is not. They are in a lane all by them self. Its like being at a party with 100 beautiful women are wearing a black dress and their is ripple in a bright yellow sun dress looking amazing.
Ripple is a no brainer!
Banks are not going away without a fight. Either they will create something on their own or use Ripple. We'll see.
