So the Ripple news we've been waiting for has finally come out. Today on their Twitter they announced a conference they would be hosting in Toronto, Canada on October 16th-18th (link here). In that announcement, they stated they would bring together leaders of the banking and blockchain sector who are committed to changing the way that money is transferred. This initiative is called "Swell." Although that's not the big news, it's who their keynote speakers are:
As I stated in my previous article, I thought the news would have some involvement with the Federal Reserve and it looked like I was right. We have Ben Bernanke, who was the previous Chairman of the Federal Reserve, and Tim Berners-Lee who was the inventor of the World Wide Web. Now if those aren't two reasons to get excited, I don't know what is. The rest of the speakers are listed below:
- Brad Garlinghouse, CEO, Ripple
- Stefan Thomas, CTO, Ripple
- Dilip Rao, Managing Director of APAC/MENA, Ripple
- Amit Sethi, CIO, Axis Bank
- Tom Jessop, President, Chain Inc.
- Kristen Michaud, Managing Director, Treasury Operations, GE Capital
- Brian Behlendorf, Executive Director, Hyperledger
- Ed Metzger, Head of Innovation, Santander
- Mr. Nobuo Ando, Representative Director, SBI Remit Co., Ltd
- Takashi Okita, CEO, SBI Ripple Asia
- Dr. Arak Sutivong, Head of Strategy, Siam Commercial Bank
- Rahul Pai, COO, UAE Exchange
- Marwan Forzley, CEO, Veem
- Dharmesh Desai, Group EVP, Yes Bank
So if there's all of this good news, why the drop in price? Well let's just say people invest in Bitcoin because it's decentralized and not controlled by the government. Ripple on the other-hand IS centralized and will have some government involvement. Couple that with the fact that the conference is over a month away, and you have a selloff.
Future of Ripple
I for one, see Ripple as a great long-term investment. First of all, if the government and banks are involved, they will need to buy A LOT of Ripple in order to facilitate all of those transactions. This in itself will increase the price of Ripple substantially. Second, this isn't taking into account the rest of the world. Ripple will change the money system globally and help third world countries such as Venezuela who are having financial constraints. It will create a base for everyone with transactions that will happen instantaneously. This is huge news that shouldn't be taken lightly. I would take advantage of these cheap prices because something tells me that by this time next year, we could see Ripple well over $1.00.

about the people of Venezuela, imagine you are one of them and you got a choose from centralized gov money just digital (again) or btc( i hope the some here belong to the rest and understand what btc is going for here)

Thanks for the great comment! Very informative and thought-out. I agree, btc can help a lot of people out, along with cryptocurrencies in general, it'll change the world. It's a great time we're in for the digital age. And I would take a ripple donation but I currently don't have a ripple wallet :/ Coinbase only supports btc, ltc, or eth.
