Being stuck in the same routine for years. Many would say that there is nothing worse than always doing the same thing in the same place. It is a bit overwhelming, and this is exactly what Gregory thinks of his job and his daily routine. He works as a cook in a restaurant. He is not the boss of the place, he is just an employee, so he has to follow any rules that his superiors set for him. The truth is that he does not have much of a problem with that. He is someone who gets along very well with everyone and never likes to contradict anyone. That is why he is so respected at work and his bosses esteem him so much, as do his coworkers. But despite all this, he wants to make a change in his life. He has been working in this place for many years and feels that he is no longer making progress.
For this reason, he had spent the last few months devising a plan to get out of the kitchen of that restaurant. He had some ideas that were fleeting because he didn't like them. First there was the idea of going to work at another restaurant, which in principle would be good because he would see new faces and have another work environment. But he realized that in a short time he would fall into the same thing. So that wouldn't be worth much. He also thought about opening a street fast food stand, but that wasn't his specialty. He was a high-level cook so he wanted a job a little more to his liking. But what could it be? He spent several months like this, in the dilemma of what to do to get out of the tedious routine of every day working in a closed place. He wanted to breathe clean air and get out of that place.
But the idea to solve this dilemma was going to come from the one he least expected. From a customer. That customer who one day went to eat at the restaurant told him how much he loved food trucks because the food is fast and they can deliver it close to where you live. And that's when it occurred to him to open a food cart. That vehicle would allow him to do everything he wanted. Like for example, leaving the same places as always, he could visit any place in the city so he wouldn't have to always be parked in the same place as was the case with his kitchen in the restaurant. And in that car he could also maintain his quality as a cook.
The idea in his head began to take shape. He told himself that he had to buy a small truck and then decorate it. With his savings, he began the search for a food truck. After touring the city, he found an old truck. The paint was bad and the engine was not that good either. But hey, at least it met what he was looking for. He had it decorated and painted and it turned out very well. But that was only the beginning of the challenges. To begin with, he had no idea that he needed special permits to park in certain places. In fact, on his first day, he chose a busy park thinking it would be a good spot, but that day he only got a big fine. But he had and has a positive mind, he always told himself that that was part of the experience.
And to make matters worse, the menu he had planned, full of fancy dishes, didn't quite work out the way he thought it would. People don't usually eat those things on the street, so he had to change the menu several times. On a few occasions, some customers got upset with him because he didn't have hamburgers. And of course, there was the issue of the truck, although it was already well painted and decorated, the engine would break down from time to time. But over time, he began to adapt. As he himself said, it was part of the experience. He learned how to park, of course after spending hours observing where people gathered. He also changed the menu to something simpler and more attractive, for example, and pizza.
He even made friends with other food truck owners, who gave him advice on how to avoid customers complaining about a sauce that wasn't even included and obviously not to enter their sales territory or a war would break out.
Things began to improve, little by little. In a way, things were already starting to take shape and he was now feeling better. It was almost like what he had been looking for at the beginning. Of course, complications came from time to time. He remembers one day that he still finds very funny when the truck's engine decided that it had worked enough and it turned off in the middle of the avenue. He had no other option and had to get out to push the truck. It was very funny to see how everyone looked at him. But he continued to think with a positive mind.
As time went by, he managed to master the art of selling in this type of vehicle. Since he is a good cook, everyone liked the food he prepared. That's why they were already waiting for him to buy their food. His skills as a cook definitely served him well. He came to love this job as he once loved his previous job at the restaurant. He had finally left the tedious routine and had the freedom to go wherever he wanted to practically sell. It was everything he had ever asked for. He no longer knows who the client was who gave him the idea to work here, but he does know that he is very grateful. In fact, he promised that if he ever sees him again, he will give him free food. He certainly got what he was looking for.
