RE: Road To SteemFest - Three Random Facts About Me (Week 4)

in #roadtosteemfest6 years ago

Lovely post @llfarms ! I loved the proud mom moment.

Reminded me of a story my dad once told me about sustaining a nasty scald on parts of his face and shoulder after falling into boiling water on a traditional stove. They lived on the outskirts of a small town on the shoresof lake victoria called Kisumu in western Kenya.

His mother, who of course was my grandmother (she passed on in 2012) then took him to an elderly traditional herbalist who promptly crushed carefully selected herbs and skillfully mixed these with fat obtained from cow milk.

She then applied it gently on the fresh wound and within about 2 weeks the wound was all closed up and healing rapidly. My dad stayed with the herbalist for about a week as he recovered. The herbalist did not even request for any payment for her services.

The most amazing thing is that after the wounds healed there was absolutely no scars!! The herbalist sadly died a couple of years later and was buried with that rare skill and knowledge.
