- SpotMini is a robotic dog that can act as a human assistant in the home or office.
In an exciting turn of events apparently the world now has robotic dogs that are able to fight off humans trying to break into houses! The ability for this new robot to prevent humans from open a door is a bit disturbing and also brings up the question as to why we are teaching a robot to fight back against humans in the first place?
The new robot I'm referring to is called the SpotMini. It is a 66-lb. (30 kilograms) robot that can easily fit in a home or an office. In the video below you can see SpotMini attempting to open a door—when a human comes with a hockey stick and displaces the robot's mechanical arm away from the door knob.
Regardless, the robot is successful in opening the door.
It turns out, any successful robot assistant for the home needs to be good at dealing with "disturbances," according to the company that designed it.
I guess this seems to make a bit of sense but I can see the military industrial complex all over this type of technology. The world of the future is going to look vastly different to the world we are living in now, that is an opinion I state with convinction. Beyond fighting with humans we will also need to overcome battles with robots, it starts with dogs and will most likely progress into newer and more advanced models.
Get a good look at this robot below!
It seems clear that advancements in 2018 are continuing to pick up pace and that there will be many more exciting announcements to come related to the field of robotics...
What did you guys think of this new robot? Can you see useful applications for it? What other abilities do you think would be good to add to this impressive lineup of skills shown in the SpotMini?
Thanks for reading @Techblogger!

Wow the technology in robots is so advanced nowadays. I wonders is the robots tough and durable
Wow even after that much disturbances
The robot did its job
I think this is what the military wants
It has more power than a human and it will be doing anything it is commanded
Let's see what future holds for these robots and humans
과학의 발전은 끝이 없네요.
These should be used as bomb dogs instead of dogs. They can be equipped with geophysical instruments to detect them, this way dogs don't have to die on the battlefield!
It does act a bit like a dog.
As for military applications, those would have to be designed separately. The robot in the video just tries to cope with the obstacle (the blocking human) and just shrugs off the obstacle when no longer blocked. There's no hint of aggression.
I wonder when Boston Scientific will get around to making a robot pack mule or pack horse. There's be an interesting optimization problem involved, as part of the payload for the "buggy" would be a portable energy source.
ever since i saw muffit in the original battlestar gallactica, i have always wanted one for myself. even to this day. and some of these examples are not far off.
great post dude. voted n resteemed.
We're in the new age of digital technology. Who knows what we can make after 10 years from now?
This is technology.. Nice one
Awesome...Technology ..:0
I love Boston dynamics :) i'm an engineering student from switzerland.

its nice post and technology
This video is both amazing and scary at the same time. To see things kinds of things. This type of robot can be great to use in dangerous situations where there is a fire or poison gas and humans cannot enter. It can save people. Thanks for sharing this.
Wow. Very nice. What language did you use to program your robot? ♥
If anyone ever saw that black mirror episode with these things they know the future gonna be a scary place with these around...lol
The idea for that episode actually came from this!
Would the robocat version just knock everything off your tables then?
A lot of interesting innovations are being churned out daily in the robot industry. Very soon a lot of people will be out of jobs.
Very interesting and neat technology but/and after reading Bradbury's Fahrenheit 451, it is also a little terrifying :-)
BOSTON company making that
Skynet is online...
That's obvious. The dog wants to go for a walk :-D
The video really reminded me a little bit of a dog.
