Is Social Media a Complete Waste of Time?

in #rsa6 years ago

Attended a stimulating evening of practical advice and realistic conversation, hosted by local Fellows of the Royal Society of Arts, led by University of Leicester’s Fellow for Business Innovation, Tobias Gould FRSA. What makes a good social media post? What is newsworthy? What's really worth sharing? The challenge is to make content that's useful, valuable, relevant - or beautiful - that engages your target market. If you can't do it right, is it worth doing at all? What are the benefits of using social media to gain favourable attention over more direct methods of communication? Is social media really just a complete waste of time? Who knows? Or perhaps they do...

No, but you can waste a lot of time on social media!

I don't think is a complete waste of time but it does seem to kill a bit creativity. People they don't think for themselves anymore as everything worth saying is already in the news fed so they stop trying. Luckily we still have same rebels here and there, some alternative social media...

Target market? 😱
I was interested to learn recently that people selling things (or promoting their business) are returning to more conventional forms - flyers etc - in preference to facebook or other social media.
