I finally received my bib for the race of this weekend! Well, not really because they don't send them, we need to pick them up, which is a bit weird for a race of this size.
The 20km of Brussels will take place on Sunday at 10 am. I have a very good bib: the number 2128! It's kind of important because the number will influence your starting place.
There are around 40,000 runners at this race so the start is organized in several waves. With this number I will start with the first 6,000 runners (the yellow box as you can see on the enveloppe). It's nice when you want to do a good time because when you start at the end, you have to overtake other runners and it is sometimes not easy (I was in the back few years ago and it's really not easy at some point of the race).
Here you can see the course of the race. It's literally in the center of Brussels and it's quite fun to see only runners in some of the busiest street of the city (usually with cars).
It's going to be great and I'm really excited! Even if I can't do my objective, it's going to be a nice day! I'm just a bit worried about the weather. Not because of the rain but the temperature will be very high (we are not used to that in Belgium):
Wow! Well done! It looks very hilly and hot!
Hydration will be very important there.
Yes of course! I already look at the quantity of water I drink every day. Some people told me it's important to do it for a few days before the race.
Good luck, I did this race twice couple years ago, first time it was the same hot weather as is predicted for this Sunday, I remember that it was very difficult and there were two death because of hot on the track.
If I would improve my running maybe I will run it next year.
Thank you! I was maybe there the same year. I remember that the temperature was very high the first time I did it and one or two people died.
I run it in 2011 and 2012, but the first one one was horrible because of hot.
I did 2012 and 2013. And in 2012 it was really hot too. But it's maybe in 2012 that they changed the starting time because of the death the year before.
That makes all the difference in the world to start out up front in a race that big! The Peachtree Road Race 10k here in Atlanta is up to 60,000 and it is the same way. A few years ago Meb Keflezighi started in the back and raised money for charity for each person he passed. Luckily he had a small crew of folks running with him to help make a path because otherwise you just get stuck behind the masses of people.
Have a fantastic race!
Yeah, that's really important! I have no excuse to make a good time now :p
Thank you!
Stay hydrated young man! Et beaucoup de plaisir aussi :)
Merci beaucoup :)
