Run #43/50 - 86%: ✔
For those of you who are unaware of what's been happening in Europe the past 2 days, there has been a huge storm with the name 'Burglind' passing over mainland Europe and it has been causing some major disruptions. Although the worst is now over, this has affected my run today severely. As I was off and at home I wanted to go out for a run in my neighboorhood.
Trees are completely uprooted and others in the background are snapped in half
- Weather: 11 degrees C, heavy rains with strong winds
- Distance: 10,85 kilometers
- Time: 1 hour and 7 minutes
- Pace: 6:11 min/km
- Training Effect: 4,4 = Highly Improving
The top picture is the situation a few weeks ago during a run. The bottom picture was today, no way to get through
It was already difficult to motivate myself to go for a run today due to the continuous rain and wind and I expected conditions to be quite difficult, however I did not expect the roads/paths to be completely blocked and unaccessible. Several times I tried my luck, only to have to go back the way I came. I even tried a different route, but everywhere where I had to run through the forrest I found blocked paths. In the end I found myself a course that was primarily on paved roads/concrete.
I had great difficulties during my run as well due to strong winds and rain and I was always alert for falling/flying objects and trees. I am happy I went out and managed to get run #43 in, but this will make a few of my next runs on more unfamiliar terrain. In the end I did 10,87 kilometers in 1 hour and 7 minutes.
You can see on the map that most of my ways, when they were in the woods, led back on themselves and the ones outside are all on concrete
7 runs left to go, but I do hope that they clear the paths quickly and that this was the worst conditions that I had to face. Keep running and have fun! Let's do this!!!
More devastation caused by hurricane Burglind
This was the only part of any forrest that I could run through, this is just before position 5 on the map above

Believe me my friend, I suffered the wind guts in my skin last Sunday while doing the 10K race.
Disgusting. There is nothing worst than strong wind for runners.
Good pics btw!
Thanks. Yeah, wind in the back uphill was nice, but with sidewinds and rains ... horrible! I wore a cap to prevent rain going into my eyes and I had to ensure that it stayed on, so also lost the pace due to not swinging my arms as much. You still had a great time though!
Well, we have a very unusual weather as well, very windy and humid but no rain... The temparture has risen as well to a level never reached on winter here... Seems to be the consequences of the global warming...clima is changing everywhere
Yes, unfortunately. This weather I'd expect in April with storms and mild temperatures, not winter. Mother Nature is finding a way.
haha this is great
Thanks :-D
Crazy weather. We're having the same type weather here going up the east coast. Insane winds and snow. Glad you are safe and back out running!
Stay warm and stay safe. I saw some pictures and heard that even Florida had some snow ... insane!
Thankfully we are out west for the winter this season. It's colder at our old campground in Florida then it is here (Ca -Arizona border) and I'm chilly. lol Never complaining again I tell you. lol
Better not, I can always upload a few more winter pictures from here ;-)
I'll just keep looking at your photos!!! lol Thank you!
Gosh stay safe, its very sad.
Thanks, I will try, but nothing will stop me from going out there and do my runs.
Its good your showing strength, but stay safe.
good post
Thank you!
Congrats @wolfje!
In Romania the huge storm never came, so I guess we are pretty lucky!
cheers
Yes, I guess so. Most of Europe was affected in some way and I even heard about winds reaching Egypt. You must've been lucky.
I should've gone outside two, but I lost my routine! I start out tomorrow, for sure! Thanks for the share! Where are you situated in Europe?
The only things that keep me inside are ice, thunder and lighting and a storm ;-)
I'm in Switzerland. What about you?
Are you running daily? I am jogging with a barefoot technique and don't take the time for my goal, which is 3 times x 10 km a week. I live near Wiesbaden. Im schönen Rheingau sozusagen!
No, I'm aiming to do 3x a week as well. Usually about 26km a week. This year I will up the pace to train for a Marathon, not sure which one yet.
Nice, I've been there once, really liked the town! I'm originally Dutch, but I've been in CH for 6 years now.
Doron,
I think there is a song by Phil Keggy in the day,...and the wind is at my back most of the way...hey hey hey....
What a challenge, keep running and if need be para sailing, wow!
Great read!
Run hard and Steem on!
Thanks for your comments and support. It keeps me going.
Mother nature has been brutal this past year. Keep safe out there!
Thank you!
Wow that’s incredible. I believe New York is also getting hit with some pretty nasty stuff..
Stay safe/stay warm!!

I am in Asia and you would probably know , here Max temp is 17 or something but I can't come out from Blanket to go for Early classes .. Funny Part is , I just queued my urine so that I have not to go to toilet. hahaha #hats off buddy..
Thanks, better motivate yourself to go to class bud! Education is underestimated at your age, but it's really something that I could do more with at mine ;-)
Good luck and thanks for commenting.
Oh thank you Sir @wolfje.. I will ...
Careful with the clean-up. Keep yer saw out of the dirt
LOL, thanks. We have great people looking our forrests over here, so I hope I don't have to get involved myself personally.
We are having a huge storm here in New Zealand as well very impassable conditions for many people.
Stay safe and look after your loved ones. We were crazy to go out in the storm, but there is no reason to go out there if you don't have to. Good luck and stay strong!
"How did you know I had Shadowhunter blood? Was there some way you could tell?"
The elevator arrived with a final groan. Jace unlatched the gate and slid it open. The inside reminded Clary of a birdcage, all black metal and decorative bits of gilt. "I guessed," he said, latching the door behind them. "It seemed like the most likely explanation."
"You guessed? You must have been pretty sure, considering you could have killed me."
He pressed a button in the wall, and the elevator lurched into action with a vibrating groan that she felt all through the bones in her feet. "I was ninety percent sure."
"I see," Clary said.
There must have been something in her voice, because he turned to look at her. Her hand cracked across his face, a slap that rocked him back on his heels. He put a hand to his cheek, more in surprise than pain. "What the hell was that for?"
The other ten percent," she said, and they rode the rest of the way down to the street in silence.”
