GEORGIA 2008
In the night between the 7th and 8th of August 2008 Saakashvili, the president of Georgia after appearing on TV making a speech about how much he loves the Ossetian people which was made for propaganda purposes but in particular to deceive the local militias into thinking that situation on the ground wouldn't have changed, backed by US neocons decided to launch a military invasion of South Ossetia thus abandoning the talks underway related to a special status. Georgia moved its tanks and artillery towards the outskirts of Tskhinval (the capital of South Ossetia) and the town immediately came under heavy shellings which caused many casualties; Russian peacekeepers, present in the region since 1992, fell also under fire.
This narrative is not Russian propaganda, the author of the EU’s Tagliavini Report determined that Georgia did not have the right to attack South Ossetia for "self-defence", as the hawks of Saakashvili's party always claimed, and that Georgia’s ‘excessive use of force” violated the UN Charter. None of the explanations given by the Georgian authorities in order to provide some form of legal justification for the attack lend it a valid explanation.

This document is important because NATO propagandists always forget to mention it or they try to dismiss it but EU always remained committed to what's written into it as the most valid interpretation of those events.
What Russia did after can be defined as a reaction, nothing else, the invasion of Georgia wasn't planned, on the contrary it was a last resort measure to counter a Georgian offensive.
Here is a documentary that perfectly explains the timeline of the conflict:
The Georgian advance was stopped by South Ossetian militia and members of the Russian peacekeeping force stationed in the city. Russian combat troops entered into the region through the Roki tunnel. Georgian troops were forced to withdraw from the city on the evening of the 10th of August. On the 11th of August, all Georgian troops left South Ossetia.
According to Konstantin Makienko, founder of the Centre for Analysis of Strategies and Technologies (CAST), the Georgian objective was a rapid destruction of Ossetian armed forces and a capture of Tskhinval before the Russian army could have a chance to intervene. "It appears that during the night from August 7 to 8. Tbilisi intended to deliver strikes on the positions of the Russian peacekeepers and the South Ossetian army in order to paralyze the chain of command. The next objective was to take Tskhinval during August 8, install a puppet government chaired by Dmitry Sanakoyev and bring residents of Georgian enclaves in the republic onto the streets during pro-Georgia rallies."
UKRAINE 2014
Regarding Ukraine I already extensively talked about the issue, on the 22nd of February the last legitimate Ukrainian president Viktor Yanukovych after refusing to resign, was forced to flee from the country fearing for his life, Russian special forces had to carry out a rescue operation to bring him to Crimea where the base of the Russian Black Sea Fleet is located.
Talking about Crimea the US intended to expel the Russian navy from its main base in the Black Sea, this was one of the primary goals of the coup in Kiev, fortunately the prompt reaction of the Kremlin impeded this machination. Documents clearly indicate that the US wanted to seize the base.
Regarding Crimea a Gallup poll sponsored by USAID before Maidan (http://www.iri.org/sites/default/files/2013%20October%207%20Survey%20of%20Crimean%20Public%20Opinion,%20May%2016-30,%202013.pdf) and an analysis conducted by German socioligists (http://orientalreview.org/2015/02/10/german-sociologists-on-crimeas-choice/) found out that the sentiment of locals never changed, the vast majority of people in Crimea mostly considered themselves as Russians or pro-Russian before the events in Kiev and then endorsed the so-called annexation; the German study fully validates the results of the referendum on reunification with Russia that was held on March 16, 2014. At that time 83% of Crimeans went to the polling stations and almost 97% expressed support for reunification.
The March 16, 2014 Crimean referendum for independence from Ukraine and subsequent union with the Russian Federation was the culmination of a struggle spanning almost a quarter of a century.
Children don't look very scared by the presence of the Russian "invaders" in the days before the referendum... Obviously not, Russian troops are in the peninsula since 1783 (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Black_Sea_Fleet), it's like asking to a citizen of Texas or California if he's scared by American troops, if he considers them as invaders.

Ukraine declared its state sovereignty on July 16, 1990. Shortly thereafter in September of that same year, the Crimean Supreme Soviet petitioned the Supreme Soviet of the USSR and the RSFSR to rescind the 1945 decision that stripped Crimea’s autonomous Soviet status and reinstate it as an autonomous republic, just as it was back in 1921.
The proposal was put to a referendum on January 20, 1991, drawing the participation of over 80% of the Crimean public, who collectively voted over 94% in support of the ‘restoration of the Crimean ASSR as a subject of the USSR and as a party to the Union Treaty’ (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crimean_sovereignty_referendum,_1991) but unfortunately it took other 23 years to secede from Ukraine through a second referendum, in the meantime in February of 1998 the Crimean parliament overwhelmingly voted to hold yet another referendum on returning to Russian jurisdiction and adopt Russian as the region’s official language, but to no avail. That same year, the Ukrainian parliament changed the name of Crimea to the Autonomous Republic of Crimea and retained a right to veto any legislation passed by the Crimean parliament.
On May 27, 2006, the U.S. naval ship ‘Advantage’ anchored near the Crimean port of Feodosia to bring ‘technical aid’ to Ukrainian soldiers at a nearby training range.
It didn’t take long for locals to voice their displeasure with this unwanted arrival. Within two days, Feodosian residents began to picket the port, waving anti-NATO signs and blocking the ‘technical aid’ from reaching its destination.
US reaction to the referendum: "Crimea is one of the most important geo-strategic military locations in the world and we've been trying like hell to get a hold of it for the last 25 years, so we can get in there and nail down the Black Sea while kicking those god-damned Russkies out in the process. We were sure we had it when we overthrew Yanukovich last year, but damned if that little S.O.B. in the Kremlin didn't snatch it right out from under our feet. Well, hell, looks like the only things we can do now are cry, lie, and try to delegitimize the hell out of these people in our mainstream media while simultaneously doing everything we can to make their lives as economically difficult as humanly possible. Damn, we were close." - Jay Vogt
Regarding Donbass despite multiple claims there are no proofs of a presence of Russian troops on the ground, certainly all kind of support has been granted to the local militias in order to defend themselves but this was necessary to thwart a ethnic cleansing after Kiev regime launched the ATO.

I end this post with a link to an excellent article about situation in post-coup Ukraine and I ask to the Western elite: was it worth?
