Deputies of the Santa Clara County Sherriff's office have arrested two people over the theft of a computer containing $10,000 worth of Bitcoin.
According to a report by the CBS SF Bay Area, Yessica Barajas, 18, Welbar Quintanilla, 24, and a third suspect stole a TV set and an Apple iMac from a family who hired the suspects to assist them in moving out after negotiating a fee for their efforts.
However, the three then began demanding more money after only two hours on the job, and when the family refused to pay their new asking price, the suspects started collecting the properties.
After checking video footage, deputies proceeded to the homes of Barajas and Quintanilla to search for the stolen goods. Although unsuccessful in locating the stolen items, they still apprehended the pair on suspicion of robbery. However, the third person remains at large.
Even if the suspects are aware of the computer’s contents, it’s unlikely they’ll be able to open the account without the access keys. However, if the computer is not recovered, the bitcoins will be gone forever.
Best Wishes,
