When we talk about Kota Kinabalu, we all will think of the mighty and majesty Mount Kinabalu at the background of the skyline or the islands nearby the city. Also due to its strategic location to the major cities in East Asia, it has become a tourist hotspot in recent years. But, do you know when did KK become the state's first city?
KK was declared as city on 2nd February 2000. The population now is roughly around 600000 and it is one of the fast growing cities in Malaysia. Home to the second busiest airport in Malaysia as well, KK offers more than natural tourist spots. It is also a cultural centre and business centre of Sabah.
While it is a city, it has rooms to improve in its infrastructure and facilities. For citizens of KK, they feel the improvement since the appointment of first Chinese Mayor since city status in 2000.
I moved to KK in end of 2001 and feel proud of the city, which has improved a lot in terms of facilities and environment. I am sure all people who came here before will have the similar feeling as what I have. The city is simply fantastic in terms of environment and nature. Hope the city will sustain its way and retain its identity as the nature city of Malaysia.
For fellow Sabah Steemians or fellow Steemians around the world, what do you think of KK? Let's share your piece of mind, either you have been here or not. And what else the city can improve?
Nice I will follow you
SABAHANS!! Thanks for sharing this!! imma proud sabahan but currently living in penang, I think for us, despite KK food tasty super delicious, the price is way too expensive compared to other places like Miri or Penang or some places in KL
yes! for the reasons that we may know and don't want to know, things are more expensive in kk, or Sabah as a whole...
I went to Kota Kinabalu once back in 2014. I love the environment. I guess the only thing that I don't miss about KK is their traffic jam during peak hour. Sometimes, I think it's worst than KL but better than Penang. Hahaha, sorry, just my two cents.
