Thousands of mourners paid their respects when they attended the public repose of famous rockstar and Cranberries singer, Dolores O’Riordan, totally oblivious of the rain. They lined the streets at her native Limerick, Ireland to bid farewell to the lead singer of one of the greatest rock bands in the world.
O’Riordan was found dead by cleaning staff in a hotel located in central London’s Park Lane about a week ago. Police, however, ruled out foul play. She was 46 years of age.
Her heartbroken mum, Eileen O’Riordan, along with Ms O’Riordan’s six siblings was accompanied and comforted by family, friends, and fans as the remains of her daughter – herself a mother of three – was laid in repose in St. Joseph’s Church, situated at O’Connell Avenue, Limerick.
The county, in honor of the rock star, has begun three days’ mourning for one of its most famous daughters.
In a world-class tribute that was customarily reserved for Popes, Heads of State, and Presidents, the remains of O’Riordan was laid in an open coffin for four hours in the Treaty City.
O’Riordan’s funeral mass is scheduled to take place on Tuesday at 11:30 am at St. Aible Church, Ballybricken, just ahead of a reserved burial in Caherelly Cemetery, where Ms O’Riordan will be laid to rest next to her late father, Terry O’Riordan.
Ms O’Riordan’s dark wooden casket was adorned with white roses along with many photographs of the star performing on stage. Other pictures that showed of her two separate meetings with late Pope John Paul II at the Vatican also adorned her coffin.
Her fans, former school pals, and friends from all over the world as well as faces from the political circles in Limerick – former Minister of Education, Jan O’Sullivan and former Minister for Defense Willie O’Dea – paused briefly at Ms O’Riordan’s casket to bid their last goodbyes to the profoundly religious star, fondly called ‘Dolly’ in her place of birth.
A few of the lead singer’s hits were played in the Church while mourners stood around O’Riordan – who looked at peace as she was laid out in an open casket, holding a set of pearl rosary beads – and went down their private memory lanes.
The Bishop of Limerick, Brendan Leahy told the jam-packed congregation as many of O’Riordan’s fans wept and were inconsolable in their grief, that although millions across the world are shocked and saddened at the sudden demise of Dolores, he believed that today is all about Limerick’s public moment to bid Ms O’Riordan farewell.
Each one of about fifty of O’Riordan’s former classmates from Laurel Hill Colaiste FCJ carried a single daffodil into the Church and laid them gently y the side of the altar.
Her Cranberries bandmates – brothers Mike and Noel Hogan along with Fergal Lawlor – left a floral tribute next to O’Riordan’s casket which read: “The song has ended, but the memories linger on.”
Her D.A.R.K. bandmate and boyfriend, Ole Koretsky said in a statement, “My friend, partner, and the love of my life is gone. My heart is broken and is beyond repair.”

ThanksRest in peace #O'riordan
Thank you!
Her musical legacy, as well as The Cranberries, goes beyond the time frame in which they came onto the scene.
The ethereal nature of her voice and ability to use it in ways that were unexpected made it more interesting than a lot of the naval gazing of their peers.
Her life ending prematurely doesn't take away from that. Bless her soul. Hopefully she's at peace now.
2017 was a tough year for the music industry. Several amazing talented musicians lost their lives. From Tom Petty, to Chuck Barry, to Chris Cornell, to Chester Bennington. It looks like 2018 has started off by taking another amazingly talented musician. Thoughts and prayers go out to her loved ones
Unfortunately man...
Rest in peace O'riordan
