We had a bad accident at my workplace. Tragic really. Foreseeable too. Now resolved.
But honestly, the shitstream of new safety rules that have followed won't heal her. In many cases our new safety rules may have unintended consequences of more accidents. We now need florescent orange vests to walk across an empty lot -after hours! It is assumed that we walk around with our eyes and ears closed. I'm surprised management isn't in the bathroom stalls ensuring that we are still wearing our hard-hats (don't give them ideas). If someone fails to wear ear plugs happens to put a nail through their hand it would be blamed on the lack of ear plugs. Really.
The whole system is leaning to stop individuals from thinking about their own place and performance. It's bizzare to me as I've worked more than 25 years without a loss-time accident, yet instead of asking me how, I have people with a history of multiple injuries telling me what to do.
Naturally managers often ignore the same rules they impose on us. No surprise yet.
I'm just venting, but please comment if you work somewhere in crazyland too.
