Shore leave.

in #sailing4 months ago (edited)

It seems that my log is out of sync by a day. Although it is now Wednesday, this post will cover yesterday's activities. It turned into somewhat of a tourist visit whilst collecting recon on the departure/extraction zone for tomorrow's travel to Meaford, ON. Jason, the sailing instructor, lives there.

The shuttle will be leaving Union Station's terminal at 9:30am tomorrow. The idea was to get the lay of the land down pat so tomorrow's connection will be as smooth as possible; when connecting from a Go transit train from Scarborough to Union Station. It's about a 30 minute ride.

Once the lay of the land felt comfortable to me then it was time for a mix of info gathering, supply procurement and touristy stuff.

The info gathering was primarily about sailing courses which are operated right in the downtown core of Toronto. Although freshwater, the port feel of downtown Toronto is a beautiful thing for an inland city to have. This visit has given me an added appreciation of Toronto. It has always been a relay point for me in the past.

It was a surprise to find that sailing lessons were being offered in the core of downtown Toronto. There are Sail Canada accreditation courses being offered. It will be a good alternative if the travel to Meaford seems too grueling.

They certainly have a lot of training boats of all sizes to meet ones training desires, from racing to deep keel training.

It was very surprising that monsoon like downpours through the night and into the morning had such an effect on the city. Power was shut down in a large area of the city due to flooding and many of the stops of the Go Train were closed due to the deluge of water. It turned out that the THC dispensary from my last visit was closed due to the flooding and a multi-block hike was required to get to an area that had not lost power.

Not being in any rush the opportunity was taken to do the skyward gazing tourist thang.

As my childhood tv personality, The Friendly Giant used to say, "Look up, look wayyyy up."

Found an even cooler dispensary than the one visited in my last trip to downtown. It was not only a dispensary but a real cafe that served laced drinks of sweet, sweet vitamin THC.

After some deliberation settled on a Shatter Bar. It boasts 24, 10.4MG pieces of sweet indica chocolate; totaling 250MG for $20CAD. Popped two of those bad boys and tuned into that hive connection of the crowds of this limping city.

There was definitely a buzz as the crowd had been halted. Patience tested. It remained a friendly place.

The flooding had continued to disrupt the transit system and when starting my return journey, towards day's end, there was only one train not delayed on the schedule. If the picture below were not so blury you may see that only one train is displaying its departure platform on the far right of the screen in the photo below.

Feeling tired after a full day under cleared skies and lots of walking went for a taxi splurge to take me the final lag of my journey from the Scarborough Go Train Station to the Marina and home.

Had contact with my Son-In-Common-Law and he tested my head set and mic with me over Discord in preparation of the Radio Course the following day, which is now today as of this writing. Confusing eh?

Hopefully the radio course will be soo action packed that the log posting about it later tonight will get me back in sync with my log postings. Until (hopefully) later tonight...

May the wind be at your back!

Sailing lessons? On a different boat. Now that's a interesting concept. I would figure they came to you and taught you how to sail your specific boat

That is the attraction of the fellow in Meaford that is about 140kms away. We have discussed about him coming to my location and sailing the Makina with me back to where he lives on the lakes. Those hours sailing with him could then be logged with the accreditation system. It would be my preference to use Makina for the majority of the instructional hours. Looking forward to see how things go this coming weekend.

Makina.. every time I say that it just comes out pronounced macarana..

...it just comes out pronounced macarana..

LOL! Will definitely have to look for an old CD of that for my 90's sound system. :)

In italian macchina means a car ;)

When translated to Spanish and then to Chinese it then translates to English as Boat/Car Stereo System. Found it on the Intranet. ;)
