Big announcement first: We got Sponsorship!
As part of her contribution to foster community and further incentivise good quality, original content creation on Steem, Curie is sponsoring the prize pool for the Sankofa Folklore series of contests for August and September. Find out ways you can support curie on any of their posts on @curie blog.
Last week's contest closed with some really amazing entries. We appreciate everyone who contributed through stories from all corners of the world. We all win when we have others honor our invitation into our individual cultures and heritages. That is the beauty of the sankofa contest.
Below were the top 3 from last week's entries, as selected by our judges. We invite you to click on them, read the very interesting stories, and support the authors if you deem their contents worthy.
First Place: 5 STEEM
Image Property of @corpsvalues
In this entertaining piece the author takes us back to a hot summer afternoon in California when he was just 15 and grandpa came visiting. What follows are two "folk stories" (or simply family stories) that grandpa told him, of the faceless woman, and of bigfoot. The author reckons thus:
"I absolutely believe them to be true, because my grandpa was an honest man who had no reason at this stage in his life to be telling lies, and the stories are supported by other family members."
Be sure to read it, and you'll agree it is deserving of the apex honors here. Good work, @corpsvalues! We also appreciate your original artworks that supported your beautiful stories.
Second Place: 3 STEEM
@gibic shares a 10th century Bali folktale of the witch Calon Arang, and the village's effort to contain her mischievous attempt to get someone to woo her beautiful daughter. It is surely an epic you should read, full of moral lessons, and entertaining in a very upbeat, intense fashion.
Third Place: 2 STEEM
Let @bashadow take you on a very fresh experience of this urban legend of the Mel Hole. In this tale, Michael puts the pieces of the jigsaw together in the form of compositing the three known pictures Mel had shared. "Did the above happen?" @bashadow ponders. "Who knows, it is all speculation. Mel's Hole, was a part of my early internet conspiracy radio day shows."
All prizes have been sent to the respective winners. Congratulations, and thank you everyone for entering.
The next round is hereby announced open!
"Share any exciting folk tale in the most creative and original way you can think of. All you need are just loose memories of the original plot, and you create an interesting story to share with us. The best entries win some STEEM."

Thank you so much for this honor. Also thank you for the inspiration to share this story.
Congratulations to everyone who made this happen, which includes the sponsors, winners, and participants.
Thank you for the selection, I had fun reliving the radio show from back then, they were some great stories, you never knew with Art Bell, was it real, did it happen, did he believe, he had a way of drawing people in and getting a story out of people. A true legend in radio. Mel's Hole was is and will likely be one of Art Bells most remembered shows from his fans.
Such a wonderful contest, and also pleased to hear it now has curie support! We need these interesting writing challenges on the blockchain. ❤️
Congrats to all the winners! I was especially pleased to see one of my favourite Steemit artists, @corpsvalues , share not only his grandpa’s folk stories, but also created his own art to complement his submission! 😍
Resteeming to spread the word.
Thank you @sankofa. This is the most fun contest I've entered in Steemit so far. I have so many tales to re-tell btw 😂
Go ahead and share them
