Lifestyle Travel Blogs – The Narcissists Guide to ALWAYS selling Clickbait Marinated in Condescension

in #satire7 years ago

Lifestyle Blog Masthead Raw.jpg

The “Lifestyle” travel blog. No other product or service could provide a fragile ego the ATTENTION it so desperately craves for validation? After all, narcissist cannot be spelled without the letter “I” - only the most important letter of the alphabet.

Lifestyle Travel Blogs – Capturing the FEELING of Exclusivity by MASTERING Vapid Content Creation

Lifestyle Travel Blog Drunk Fail.jpg

Good “lifestyle” travel blogs are all about two things: tons of photos and long form commentary which is largely ignored, but serves as excellent filler and implied whitespace between photo sets. Think of the commentary as the artificial meat filler and artificial color of listed ingredients on a package of hot dogs – largely disgusting and ignored, but necessary to make it borderline palatable and profitable.

Remember, filler is about texture – not substance. Much like chewing on some hotdog “meat” and feeling a sharp crunch of some bone chips or mystery debris carefully folded into the filler during processing might immediately draw your attention to WTF you’re eating; good filler text has subtle interesting bits which immediately capture the reader’s attention.

Filler Content – CAPTURING Attention with "Truthy" Facts to Frame the Photos

Exotic Restaurants Fail.jpeg

Drawing the readers in and making them feel part of the experience, requires effectively capturing and clearly conveying your feelings of condescension and patronization in a way which makes them feel part of the experience. It’s channeling your inner Famewhore to reinforce Schaudenfreud amongst the plebs and reminding them how much better your life is compared to theirs. Haphazard, unedited, long form, unformatted block text alone cannot effectively capture and convey this experience.

Sprinkle in some significant dates with zero context or relationship to the filler content and create a sense of authority. Significant historical dates could include things like the expiration date of the milk in your refrigerator and the anniversary date of your divorce. Combine these with memorable slogans, clichés and catchphrases from commercials, advertisements and historic figures with name recognition.

For instance you may want to touch upon how Davy Crockett wrote the song Born in the USA in 1776 while watching the cannon bombardment of the Alamo, and how it was later rebooted by Bruce Springsteen, which launched his music career.

We’re not trying to give a historic dissertation or please the Texas Board of Education with our latest Cliff’s Notes on history. We’re simply creating a pleasing break between photosets filled with light, “truthy” facts of interest.

Photographs – Let the POWER of Photoshop Make Exotic Vacations Affordable and Unleash the ENVY of the Plebs

Exotic_Location_Photographs.jpg

When writing a lifestyle travel blog, it's all about the photos. In an effort to communicate the highest level of vapid possible, the focus must be on sheer quantity of photographs in exotic locations or exclusive restaurants. No worries if you run out of photos, the internet is full of exotic locations you can Photoshop yourself into. Two basic rules and bits of etiquette about lifestyle travel blog photos:

Sexy Outdoor Photoshoot Chemtrail Etiquette

Lifestyle_Travel_Blog_Chemtrail_Fail.jpg

There is no greater challenge to a lifestyle travel blogger than taking outdoor photos in a chemtrail free area. Unless you're looking for your comment thread to be hijacked by concerned truthers, be vigilant and considerate to conspiracy theorists everywhere when choosing an outdoor photoshoot location.

ALWAYS Super Uber Macro Pics of Food

Lifestyle_Travel_Blog_Macro_Food_Fail.jpg

Nothing says esoteric and artsy in photography quite like uber macro close-up pics of EVERYTHING. Even if your plate looks a bit disorganized and grabasstic, uber close ups will always make it look more artsy and aesthetic.

Next time I'll touch on crafting a successful humanitarian travel blog.

Don't hesite to ask if you need something or information ;)

@geemo-from-paris I will take you up on that once my kids get a bit older and we plan a trip there. My daughter wants me to take her to the Louvre and the Eiffel Tower.

I think one of my favorite memories of Paris was stepping out of my hotel on the St Germain-des-Pres in the 6th Arrondissement every morning to the smell of croissants baking. We also went into the Loire River Valley, Barbizon, Foutainbleu, Versailles, and on and on. Looking forward to returning.

@lpfaust
Yes Saint-germain and the 6th arrondissement is one of the real Parisian place and is a luxury area
The "old" Paris is really nice
It's very good than you could see all this French Place , Versailles and Fontainebleau are amazing

@Ipfaust, I like your style of writing. Thanks.

@shirish5 thanks for being a consistent fan of my writing. I appreciate the support.

Voting for this because it's hilarious, but I do enjoy reading some of those lifestyle posts.

@donkeypong as always, I appreciate it. As much as I liked the flow of the content I was writing, I think the pictures really pulled everything together and made me chuckle a whole lot more.

I did tickle myself a bit while pulling this together. The photos still make me laugh.

Great stuff! It's all about the Instagram ;)
If only these photos could really talk.....

@adambarrat thanks for stopping by for a laugh and dropping a comment on my thread. I appreciate the interaction with people who take some time to read my content.

SO much truth about the Instagram. In fact I may have to write some satire on modern "photo" blogs. I think all great blog articles need some great images to capture interest and tell a good story. When writing humor and satire, I think the images are essential to sell the exaggeration and humor.

@lphaust, the truth, all bared and naked !!. I loved the way you simply destroyed one of the uber topic of blogging. Creativity at its best. You know how to crawl into the psyche of people...Couldn't wait to read more from you 😊👌... Of course I am your follower since sometime here. And I am well rewarded with your pearls of wisdom

@topdog thanks for the read, laughs and comment. I'm glad to have you as a follower and appreciate the support.

Satire is something I have always enjoyed because it reminds me of the importance of Jesters in the monarchy. They slaughtered the sacred cows with humor and were the only ones who could speak truth to power veiled in humor. I think satire is something sorely missing and I'm glad it's appreciated.

Was shouting OMG!! at seeing the first photo thinking the world is waking up to another plane crash. Thank God it's something different.

@austinofana thanks for taking some time to read and comment. I appreciate it.

Seems the choice of imagery did grab your attention like the filler products mentioned in the blog. Success! On a more serious note, I'm hoping you managed to find some humor and laugh a bit as fear subsided.

Of course i did laugh it out, great article bro. Much love

Thanks, laughed in the morning :)

@dlina-v-metrah thanks for the read, laugh and comment. I appreciate it.

Glad I could get your day started with some humor.

Are you talking smack about my Steemit blog????? hahaha just kidding. This is funny.

@brianphobos thans for taking some time to stop by for a laugh and dropping a comment. I appreciate it.

Technically you'd have to be in an exotic location (or Photoshopped into one) to qualify. I suppose if you included some sort of fruity drink from Ocean Spray or a Caprisun Juice box, it would satisfy the Venn Diagram in some obtuse way.

BTW, I love the pool meeting series. I think you need a few more inflatables floating in the pool with you for future episodes...lol.

Hahah, thanks! Yeah I was looking on eBay and was going to get a dolphin and some blow up tropical fish. :-)

hahah epic post from @ipfaust :D

@blazing thanks for stopping by to read, laugh and comment. The support is appreciated.

I'm starting to talk myself into a regular travel series . I figure all I need are some daisy dukes, some olive oil and an exotic location filled with chemtrails.

looking forward to that series .

Hahahaha

@rtdcs thanks for stopping by for a laugh and a comment. I appreciate it.

I think that people like the condescending attitude. We have grown up with egos trained by what others think we should aspire too. If we voice our own thoughts we are told that we are not enlightened and should not opine so foolishly. We grow up on a diet of you don't deserve this and because of that we buy into the thought that is what is really for sale and that we are to purchase it with our own peace of mind and integrity. So it becomes palatable in a Pavlovian way. You could not possibly be as happy as me and you don't deserve to but you should buy what I am selling. Shoulds are dangerous things. Well I stopped buying it and I am afraid that most people are going to have to used to the fact that I am no longer so involved in the good opinion of others. It is just not worth my peace of mind. I have seen others who call this piece funny. I see it more as an indictment of the status quo and the sales pitch that we are meant to pay for the pretense of others.

I always get the feeling of envy for people who post a travel blogs and the eat foods that I just dream of having LOL. But I do enjoy their photos which is important for me to see and at least be part of the experience @lpfaust

@cryptopie thanks for taking some time to read and comment. I appreciate it.

Like many people here on Steemit and others I know and interact with outside of Steemit, I like food and travel pieces as well. I think in some ways it speaks to my inner gypsy and vagabond. Most of my life I've not been able to stay n one place for too long. There's just too many awesome place and people to visit, learn about and develop friendships with.

Travel pieces which are done well (great subject matter, photos/multimedia, grammar check, edit and polished), capture my attention, and bring me into a place I 've never experienced before I absolutely enjoy. Outside of that, - not so much.

Yes @lpfaust There is so much that this world has to offer and we actually cannot experience them all, the food, the places, people, so it just makes me enjoy such sights of wonderful places and foods that I can see and wonder about even if it is just on the screen.

So funny !
