I just finished reading the summary of a book written by Tom Brady, one of the most famous
American football quarterbacks of our time. It is about the TB12 method, in which he lists 12 steps that will help you get a healthy body and live well and happily, even when you grow older. He is constantly writing about how it is essential not to grow muscles to look good, but to take care of your body in a way that will make it a happy home for your soul in the coming years.
And yes, you have quotes like the one above saying that you are as old as you believe you are. This is when my wife would just say, that is stupidity. Of course life isn't as easy as that, and it is a perfect example of someone saying something that sounds smart, but in reality it is stupid. She said the same a few weeks ago when I shared the quote saying "You Snooze, You Loose." Yet another stereotype of a quote not taking different personalities and characters into consideration.

And yes, I do agree with my wife, but still, even though it is a stupid stereotype and over-generalization, there are still a few hints of wisdom as well in quotes such as this one. Why is that? So many people start telling themselves facts about themselves, and after a while, the symptoms validating those claims will start to show. This is happening subconsciously. So, when you start saying that you are old and that you feel old, yes, then that is what will follow.
But, if you constantly confess that you are doing well, you feel young, and you are gonna remain young and strong for many more years, yes... that is much more likely to happen to you.
Once again, overgeneralization, and injuries can happen even so, but it is about a mentality, and I believe many would do good thinking about how they speak about themselves and the consequences that actually has on their lives.
