Halting SBD production regardless of the debt load is an obvious step towards eliminating SBD entirely.

As someone who has been in these discussions at Steemit HQ, I can say with certainty that this is a logical leap not rooted in fact, but 100% speculation.

Nothing is being attacked. Our goal is simplicity, not subterfuge. If we wanted to eliminate SBD, we would tell you—we don't.

I don't understand that at all. SBD is exactly what provides simplicity for users outside the crypto community. It's a step away from simplicity to require users to initiate power down, wait a week, and then come to terms with having a volatile crypto token which may be worth substantially less than they were led to believe based on their post reward. It simplifies nothing from a user perspective. It makes the platform far less approachable more intimidating.
