TAKE MY YOKE UPON YOU

in #sc-n5 years ago (edited)

A disciple is a person who voluntarily decides to take up Jesus’ yoke and put it on his own neck.

This disciple now live for Jesus, as an apprentice he does every work that His master (Jesus) does and is determined to be committed to it for life and eternity.
Now the purpose for your living irrespective of your profession or work must change to become Christ purpose for coming into the world.

Jesus has promised us to rest in the book of Matthew chapter eleven verses 28 – 30.

“Come unto me all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me, for I am meek and lowly in heart and ye shall find rest unto your soul. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light”

The first rest in verse twenty eight concerns every believer who come to Jesus with all his labour and struggling under sin or sicknesses, demons, principalities and powers.
Your salvation does not end in being healed or sicknesses or forgiveness of your sins. That does not end God’s purpose for your salvation.
In verse twenty nine to thirty of the same chapter, Jesus made it clear that there is a rest for your soul, if indeed you are to enter into an experience of rest and fulfillment in your life. This rest has a process that you must pass through. It is called discipleship which is a voluntary enrollment with Jesus for training to become like Him. It is to take up His yoke upon you and learn of Him. It is only the disciples who are made to be conformed to the image of the Lord Jesus Christ that have the hope of reigning with Him.

TIDE UP FOR THE MASTER’S USE

A disciple is a man that has surrendered his life to be tied up for the Master’s use. When Jesus needed an ass to sit and go to Jerusalem to fulfill God’s purpose for His life. He sent two of His disciples to go into a nearby village to Jerusalem to untie an ass for Him to ride upon.
Now when they drew near Jerusalem, to Bethphage and Bethany, at the Mount of Olives, He sent two of His disciples and He said to them,

“Go into the village opposite you, and as soon as you have entered into it you find a colt tied, on which no man has sat. Loose it and bring it.
And if anyone says to you, “why are you doing this?” Say, the Lord has need of it; and immediately he will send it here. “Matt. 11:1-3

Jesus knew the position of the cold so does He know the location of every disciple of His. Jesus needed a tied colt not the one that was roaming about without the control of the Master. The tied colt waits for the time that the Master will have need of him to assign to him where to go and what kind of job he will do for Him.

Jesus will not ride upon any free colt who has no control. Such a servant is not fit for the Lord to ride upon into His glory and into the midst of His people.
A tied colt is always available for the Master’s use for any service

“Therefore if anyone cleanses himself from the latter, he will be a vessel for honour, sanctified and useful for the Master, prepared for every good work” 2 Tim. 2:21.

Also, a tied colt or servant depend solely on the Master for his supply of every need and does not have any choice of his except that of his Master.
That tied colt is described as a colt >“on which no one has sat which made him a fresh colt that is only kept for the Master’s use.” Our God looks for the best.

A DISCIPLE – A LEARNER

A disciple is a learner and always ready to learn. Taking up a yoke with Jesus is for the purpose of doing a work and for the accomplishment of this work the disciple has to learn of Jesus.

“Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me, for I am meek and lowly in heart, and you shall find rest unto your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light”.

With your willingness and obedience and with Jesus consideration of His disciple, your yoke becomes an easy one. He knows how to handle each of His disciples just to make sure they learn of Him to be like Him. You cannot be fulfilled in your spiritual life except you carry Jesus’ yoke. That is the only way to be a Christian.
A Christian is to be like Christ in nature, in life, in character and in everything. You can never like Christ without being His disciple first.

There where people in the old who proved their walk with God as reality.
Example was Gideon who under a very harsh condition in his time maintained his walk with God even on the farm. A disciple is ever ready for the Master’s use. Gideon never broke his relationship with God. A disciple must always be in God’s presence irrespective of where he is and at the same time reflecting the life of Christ.

A disciple loves and highly esteems his Master, he counts it all joy in all persecutions, it does not matter to him whatever instrument (whether human, material or spiritual) the Master uses to hammer him into the desired shape. He accepts joyfully the Master’s decision as the best in making him to become all that the Lord has designed him to be. He believes in the love of his Master and agreed with Paul according to second Corinthians chapter four verses sixteen to seventeen.

“Therefore we do not lose heart. Even though our outward man is perishing, yet the inward man is being renewed day by day. For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, is working for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory”.

There is no graduation in discipleship so it is a life relationship with Jesus in order to be conformed to His image and it will only end at His appearing.
