Many people believe that giving only for the fact of giving without looking at the condition or the reason why you give is more than enough and I think we should check very well how we are giving is to say if we do it with generosity with enthusiasm or if we are doing it just for complying with some rules that society imposes on us to win their applause.
Other people never like to give anything because they believe that giving would be ruined or because they love and put their trust in money first of all while there is a conglomerate of people who give generously of everything they have and the more they have more give.
In this regard, the Bible states:
Luke 6:38
38 Give, and it will be given to you; good measure, tight, shaken and overflowing will give in your lap; because with the same measure with which you measure, they will measure you again.
(RVR1960)
When we give generously because we have understood that what we have we have received by grace then we will be multiplied in everything we have.
Giving is sharing with kindness and love what you have and leading you to obtain great blessings because God rewards generous giving in all those people who do it freely without limits
2 Corinthians 9: 7
Each one must give according to what he has decided in his heart, not reluctantly or by obligation, because God loves him who gives with joy. Each one give as he proposed in his heart: not with sadness, nor out of necessity, because God loves the cheerful giver.
( NIV)
Giving is not enough just to do it out of necessity but because it comes from the heart to share all the gifts that God has given for gratitude and generosity.
Proverbs 11:25
He who is generous thrives; He who revives will be revived. The generous soul will be prospered; And whoever will satisfy, he will also be satisfied.
(NIV)
There are many blessings and benefits that those who give with generosity receive in addition to being an honor to God since when you give generously you are expressing your gratitude to God for all that you receive from your hand.
2 Corinthians 9: 8
And God can make all grace abound for you, so that always, in all circumstances, have everything you need, and every good work abounds in you. And God is mighty to make all grace abound in you, so that, always having in everything all things sufficient, you abound for every good work.
(NIV)
Giving also implies an abundant grace in your life and yours and you will never lack anything because God will supply all that is necessary according to his riches in glory.
Excellent reflection on "giving" @xioran, certainly giving is better than receiving and when we give generously we honor God and receive twice what we give.
