This article is meant to be direct and as a Nigerian, I relate to the pains of evey hardworking Nigerian who had been frustrated by the system, not those who claim to be self proclaimed Robin Hoods, who in reality are nothing but scammers.
The harsh truth
One of the very few things I'll acknowledge is that Nigeria as a country is hellishly hard despite the vast amount of natural resources and human resources found in this "giant of Africa."
This isn't as a result of slave trade, as honestly, our leaders are the problems not the white men.
It's been over how many years since we gained independence, but we're not truly free. We have traded one slave master for another. Only this time, we're in love with the black captors and some choose to blame the whites for something that isn't their fault.
It's easier to blame but extremely hard to accept responsibility and the consequences of our actions. This attitude of trying to justify a morally bankrupt set of people simply because they have given usba piece of the corrupt pie or because we are direct or indirect recipients has to stop.
Being a Nigerian is hard enough, but being a Nigerian in this era is hellish. When we apply for jobs abroad, our nationality plays a huge role in not getting selected.
I CAN NOT COUNT THE NUMBER OF TIMES I HAVE BEEN TURNED DOWN ON BUSINESS PROPOSALS SIMPLY BECAUSE I'M A NIGERIAN.
Why? Because some criminal elements have left a nasty taste in the mouth of those home and abroad. No matter how we try to excuse such a repugnant conduct, it doesn't justify anything. What is bad is bad.
That brings me to the main discussion of why internet scams are bad.
From love scams, to false contracts and sales of properties, no matter how we try to reduce the impact of the scam, it is still a scam. So let's debunk those excuses shall we?
- 1 The country is hard and there are no jobs; While this statement is in fact seemingly true, I can pinpoint to so many flaws in the statement. Yes, there is job scarcity and the country is challenging, however, there is also entrepreneurship and different ways to make money online without resulting to fraud.
You might so much as ask if there's no money to even do data, how can you stay online. If you can sacrifice for months on end, sometimes years just to defraud someone, then you can sacrifice to actually do research on legitimate ways of making money.
Furthermore, ask yourself this question honestly, are you uniquely qualified for those jobs out there? Do you have the skillsets? Do you have the least academic qualifications? Don't shout about job scarcity when you're not employable.
- 2 What about the corrupt politicians; For starters, the politicians are not cyber fraudsters and they will surely get what is coming to them. A criminal cannot decide how law enforcement agents should operate.
Secondly, as a nation, a revolution isn't off the table. Kick those politicians out of power and seek better reforms instead of scamming people.
- 3 We are returning what the whiteman stole/collecting salaries for our slave forefathers; Permit me a second to laugh real hard. What salary?? What forefathers?? The same ones who sold their brothers? The so called slaves, how are their lives as compared to us the 'freefolk'. This is as baseless as it is ludicrous.
The worse part is that unsuspecting citizens are being scammed. I want to ask; is it that they have a list of those who were involved in slave trade? Lol, I doubt. Slave trade era was bad, however, I've come to discover a lot of things which make me reconsider if it did harm or good. Are you collecting and donating it or are you collecting and squandering it? This brings me to the next point.
- 4 We're helping the economy thrive; First of all, whenever I see something like this, I laugh so hard, I almost fall. How are scammers helping the economy thrive? They enrich themselves, that is all there is to it.
You scam someone and go clubbing and whoring till you go broke and repeat the cycle. How is that rejuvenating the economy? Just a desperate attempt to justify nonsense.
The truth is scamming is bad and no one can justify it with any excuse. You enrich yourself, you do not have any excuse as to why you should do so. So many people have their own rough patch in life and make it without becoming scammers.

They use slave trade to justify their actions, they steal money from white people and still end up giving it back to them by buying Gucci and other designer stuff😂😂😂 stupid people, they'll get punished for their crimes someday
They're always spouting "only God can judge us"
Like it's a silly mentality they have.
It is very painful honestly. People simply don't trust us and even in TV programs use it to poke fun at us.
Sadly, we can only try to correct such notions
It's hurts that the effect of a few messes up so much for the majority. I am limited even in the use of my domiciliary account as well. I wonder what the way forward is. Fixing it one person at a time starting with ourselves? would that have any effect in the long run?
I can count the amount of times my account got frozen. Dorm account, let's not even get started. The worse part is these people see it as a "divine mandate" of sorts.
Dammit! I have a pending transaction with one of my colleagues on another social media platform. For him to send me USD, he has practically been stripped and searched repeatedly. He has told them it's all clean and above board but they think he is being ripped off for a business deal they know nothing about! It's just too bad. But hey! I've got friends in the UK and other environs that say their societies are degenerating terribly and that many of us in Africa are better off than they are morally and spiritually. Bears some thinking about jare...seems everybody has both their advantages and disadvantages
