The first step is to look at such issues in a global context and remember there are more countries on this planet than the US.
Specific to your reply, Id wonder why you base all your US history from the point of your Founding fathers onwards ? The world is much older than that.

Because when I speak about things to do with American Citizens I try giving the "History" required for that instance. If I were an expert in, say,, India(?) I would generally speak about Gandhi and the colonialism of Great Britain, but I am not, so I only try influencing my own citizenry... United States was born, not in 1776, but rather 1765 when the Declaration of Independence was first written.
