Making Camp on an Island From my Kayak

in #scenery7 months ago

I've had some great weekend nights out on the rivers around my home lately and have found some fantastic spots. This one was a huge island on the Highwood River, and there are dozens and dozens of eagles living in the trees and along the banks all around us. That made it especially good for watching sunset and sunrise on the banks while the eagles soared and fished all around us.

Anyway, this is a setup of the camp on timelapse, pulling everything out of the kayak for a great camp site.

I have one of those hammocks, but not the tarp over the top. It's a great way to travel light and sleep comfy, particularly in the tropics, where any breeze just pulls the heat out from underneath you. My Mum actually sewed up a mozzie net over mine.
It's gathered at the foot end, and when it's time to go to sleep I just pull it up over the entire hammock.

Sweet, ya I love hammocks, especially for kayak camping as often the island options are NOT flat or nice like this one was, and the hammock is the best way to find a comfy spot. I always get the best sleep anyway in a hammock.
