A reader gives life to the story with their attention. The characters, settings, dilemmas and solutions find life in our hearts and minds. They continue to grow through contemplation and conversation, they are compared to our past and future experiences, they become parts in the construction kit with which we understand our present and imagine our futures.
Fiction both explores and creates culture.
