Brief story about Auchi Polytechnic
Auchi Polytechnic is a reputable institution located in the northern part of Edo State Nigeria. The institution was formally a technical college when it was founded in 1963. It was later changed to a full fleshed polytechnic in 1973, the year Nigeria became a republic. There are basically seven schools in the institution and about 29 department. The schools include:
- School of Art and Design
- School of Business Studies
- School of engineering
- School of Information and Communication Technology
- School of Applied Science and Technology
- School of Environmental Studies
- School of General Studies
The institution is known for it academic excellence as it has been rated several times as one of the best institutions in Nigeria by Webometric. It offers courses only up to National and Higher National Diploma.
COVOCATION CEREMONY IN AUCHI POLYTECHNIC
Some friends
It was a beautiful Saturday morning, the day I planned to accompany my fiancé to her convocation ceremony. We both get dressed and drove straight to the venue of the convocation. We got there at about 11:00 am when the convocation had already started. The ceremony was for graduate of 2015/2016 session and the objectives were:
- Delivery of convocation lectures
- Award of diploma and certificate
- Recognition of best department and students
- Orientation on life after school.
There were copious number of dignitaries that were present in the ceremony. Some notable ones among them are the deputy Governor of Edo state, commissioner of education, the king of Auchi and the Local Government chairman.
The opening speech was given by the rector, Dr. Momodu Sanusi Jimah. In the opening speech he stressed the need for students and staff to take their academic work very serious and presented award to the best students of each department of the polytechnic the polytechnic. He also gave the best students cash gift of $10000 each for their effort to emerge as the best students.

THE MOST INTERESTING PART OF THE CEREMONY
Some of the students were given the opportunity to speak on how they became so successful in their academic pursuit. One of them said something that struck me. He explained how he became so successful in his academic career. His exact words are “ am not surprised at the success I have made so far in my academic pursuit, I would have be surprised if had not been this successful. I grew up in a home were we were compelled to read for a minimum of four hours daily. I think that is what help me in achieving success right from my high school days. My mum was a teacher in the school we attended while in high school and she was constantly making us see reasons why we should be the best in whatever we do. She was constantly singing it in our ears that the secret of our future is hidden in our daily routine. She made us read biographies of great men and women that have made impact in their various fields and made us believe that we could do same. Therefore my award and achievement is dedicated to her because she is the reason behind my success, thanks”
I was really inspired by that wonderful speech and made up my mind from that instant that I am going to make my kids the best in the world by applying the same principle.
