Isaac Newton was born on January 4, 1643 in Woolsthorpe, England where he grows up. His father was a wealthy farmer who died three months before his birth. Sir Isaac Newton was born premature and wasn’t expected to live long. When he was young his mom, Hannah, remarried leaving Isaac to live with his grandparents. Growing up he became very insecure and displayed irrational behaviors. For the rest of his life he preferred to work and live alone focused on his writing and his studies.
Isaac Newton was physicist, mathematician, astronomer and an alchemist and he laid the groundwork for future discoveries by scientists across the globe. Even Albert Einstein once said that Isaac Newton was the smartest person that ever lived.
Newton Discoveries
• Gravity
Sir Isaac Newton is famous for discovering gravity. The legend tells us in the 1600’s Isaac Newton was sitting under an apple tree. Apparently, an apple fell on his head, and he started wondering why the apple fall to the ground. Eventually his theory about gravity helped to explain the movements of the planets and the Sun.
Laws of Motion
Newton's laws of motion has three fundamental laws of physics.
- First law of motion: An object will remain at rest or in uniform motion in a straight line unless acted upon by an external force.
- Second law of motion: Acceleration is produced when an unbalanced force acts on an object.
- Third law of motion: All forces in the universe occur in equal but oppositely directed pairs.
Calculus
At the age of 24, it’s not an overstatement to say Newton's insight in the development of calculus has truly revolutionized and changed the world. Calculus has uses in physics, engineering, economics, chemistry, and biology.
Isaac Newton Quotes

- To every action there is always opposed an equal reaction.
