Creationism is a religious based philosophy, not science and therefore cannot be debated, because belief and faith are not science.
That does not mean that questioning "Established" science is only being done by a religious theocracy. Science requires that ideas be questioned and the most widely held beliefs are frequently knocked down with evidence.
It is up to the group advocating a theory to prove it is true. Lack of an alternative theory or lack of evidence that disproves the theory, does not mean that the original theory is true in any way.
Well put! It absolutely goes both ways; science is not infallible and asking questions is how we learn and improve! A theory is all well and good, but it doesn't mean a whole lot without evidence. Evolution is such a huge life-changing (no pun intended lol) concept that it should come as no surprise that there are those who question its validity. I like to think of this as a positive thing; it motivates scientists to strengthen the theory by combating the opposition and searching for tangible facts, which helps everyone by increasing our scientific knowledge and experience!
It would be worse if people blindly accepted any scientific theory put forth without evidence.
Interesting how you make "opponents of evolution" into "Creationism".
I also never said you should take science without question. Just don't ignore the evidence sciences holds up.
Sorry @lennstar, I didn't mean to put words in your mouth! I was agreeing with @clearshado about questioning theories, but I didn't mean to say you implied science should be unquestioningly accepted.
You're right as well, the evidence that IS quantifiable should never be dismissed!
