Do not be alarmed, but it is good to know if you live in a seismic zone, to know the threat that is present on us. Seismology has as one of its objectives to preserve the life of man and its structures, which is why they are installed in these regions where earthquakes have occurred in the past, a series of instruments to detect them. They are mainly the networks of seismometers and the networks of accelerometers; the first in order to determine the location (hypocenter), time of origin (time in which the seismic event occurred) and magnitude (associated with the energy released by the earthquake); and the second to determine the acceleration that the soil acquired during the movement, but activated when earthquakes occur that can create considerable damage. With both networks and others of a geological nature, information is available that allows for studies such as: micro and macro-seismic, risk and seismic hazard, seismic maps and many others in order to create seismic-resistant standards that allow minimizing the threat that persists in these regions.
