RE: Do you truly understand science? Okay, do you understand an appeal to authority falacy?

LOVE THIS. I AGREE WITH EVERYTHING HERE.

It's so refreshing to read articles like this. I'm surrounded every day by environmentalist professors/students in class who have prepared speeches about how we're driving the planet downhill while resorting to very little solid science or examples to back such statements. They'll spout a little unrelated factoid here, gawk a bit about oxygen, carbon dioxide, biofuels, deforestation, etc. there, and then follow it up with some form of "These are all FACTS. Anyone who disagrees with climate change is not a real scientist." This infuriates me because it's a militant stand. They're just being intellectual bullies.

The true irony is I would be much more willing to seriously consider their claims if they weren't such absolutists (although the politics don't help, either). Their very arrogance is what fuels my doubt. In the history of scientific ideology, the stubborn refusal to consider any alternate ideas or accept any scientific findings that disagree with the current dogma is the surest sign that the "consensus" needs to be challenged.
