This little device lights up my electronics shop for free day and night. Its a sort of free night light. I can now use dead batteries to get light long after they are considered used up.
The Joule Thief I made in the previous post can use old discarded batteries to light up an LED. This is perfect for emergency lighting, a night light, camping or survival.
Imaging putting this circuit into a small flashlight package and use dead batteries to give you light in a survival situation. When the power goes out this can provide you with free light.

Mine was running for an entire three days and nights using a dead battery. I have never thrown out any of my old batteries so I have a lot that I can use for free lighting.
You could also use any other 1.5 volt battery for this circuit. The larger C and D batteries would power the light for a very long time.
I had mentioned using an Earth Battery to power this device in the previous article. This is quite an exciting idea. Imagine free light forever. An Earth Battery never gets used up really. With time, a long time, the metal parts may have to be replaced due to corrosion in the earth. But it is essentially free energy once you put the rods into the earth.

This is a VERY common device and many people make them. Last I checked, a little girl did NOT hold a patent on the device, nor did she invent it.
I do believe that making one myself is perfectly legal and acceptable.
No reason to steal her's though is it.

What is the oscillation frquency of this circuit? Could you explain how it operates and how to calculate the oscillation frequency?
I did not measure it. Since I used recycled components and dont every know anything about the coil I used, unless I measure it with a scope, I dont know.

My pc says that site has a virus and won't go there. Is the turns ratio on the coil 1to1 or something different? I usually have a schematic and parts list before attempting to build any circuit.
