Simple Question #3 : What Is Red Dwarf ( Star ) ?

in #science7 years ago

◦ Red Dwarf

After heard about Red Dwarf from your TV or typical online web page most of the time when you look up at the sky you probably say "oh this one is red dwarf and ....that one is red dwarf also that one too " but sorry to crush your belief. Unfortunately you can not see Red Dwarf with naked eyes, simply because Red Dwarf is small, cool, not so bright, you need to have a decent telescope to be able to observe the Red Dwarf, but still even if it made up of about 75% of total stars in the galaxy it's fairly difficult to detect one.

Red Dwarf is a small star, its mass is ranging from 0.075 to about 0.50 Solar Mass and its size is also much smaller than the Sun but compared to Earth it's still big enough some are about the size of Jupiter and some are smaller. Its surface temperature is less than 4,000 Kelvin ( Less than 3726.85℃ / 6740.33 ℉ ) which mean it is dimmer than any other stars like sun.

Talking about lifespan. Red Dwarf's lifespan is incredible, estimated about 1 - 10 trillions years before eventually turning into White Dwarf and later turning into Black Dwarf, with this lengthy lifespan Red Dwarf might be the last light that emitted before consumed by the darkness of the universe. Red Dwarf is really a common type of star in our galaxy, non-coincidentally speaking the closest stars to our Solar System is actually a Red Dwarf called Proxima Centauri ( or Alpha Centauri C ).
