RE: Cervical Cancer - Another Virus-induced Problem

in #science7 years ago

Getting a pap exam 2 times a year is a little overkill. In Ontario women are only screened every 3 years if they have normal paps so that health resources aren't wasted especially if they are in a committed relationship.

Also just because you have a HPV infection doesn't guarantee that you are going to get cervical cancer.

HPV infection can be cleared by a woman naturally if her immune system is healthy enough and her diet adequate. Cervical cancer is a big problem in countries that don't have a pap screening program not so much in countries that do.

Sort:

I said that a HPV infection can be successfully fought by the body :P

And there are enough other reasons a woman should go to a gynecologist at least once a year, better twice. But yes, if she's in a committed relationship and has been tested negative for HPV, the risk is relatively low.

(In Germany it's recommended once a year and the test isn't very sensitive so it makes sense to do it in somewhat shorter intervals)

My apologies for the part of my previous comment that was a repetition of your article. I didn't catch it when I read through the article the first time.

No problem :)
