Nice post and quite informative. However, I might suggest a rewording of the lead in sentence.
The explosion PS1-10adi from 2010 shook the whole universe.
Since the galaxy where the explosion occurred is 2.4 billion light years from earth, it would have taken that amount of time for the information contained within the light from that event to reach the observation stations on earth. Therefore, a rewording of the sentence would seem in order to avoid possible confusion. This can easily be accomplished by pointing out that an event that "shook the whole universe" 2.4 billions ago was detected by researchers in 2010.
