Look at his comments section on his blog. He's been doing this for a while. I actually saw this exact guy last week on my post, literally commented "Good to know, thanks" and upvoted himself double what my entire post was worth at the time. Things like this are exactly what is wrong with Steemit. Just because a system can be easily manipulated doesn't mean you should actually do it...
I am ok with someone just self-upvoting, it's his stake after all. But the way he does it is super annoying :/ Just make a post and comment on yourself or something.
I upvote myself as well on my posts and comments on my on post. However I also make sure I upvote others as well, and the comment is usually relevant to the conversation. But I suppose you are right and it is his stake so he can choose to upvote what he wants.
Writing a vague or irrelevant short comment then upvoting yourself whilst not upvoting others leaves a bitter taste in the mouth for me. Like you said he could easily just write a post and do the same thing...
