Even today, after a few years of development, the charging of electric vehicles continues to be a bottleneck due to the shortage of charging stations. On the other hand, no matter how much the vehicle is zero-emission, if we have to obtain electricity from coal it cannot be said that we have solved the problem.

Aún a día de hoy después de unos cuantos años de desarrollo la recarga de vehículos eléctrico sigue siendo un cuello de botella por la escasez de estaciones de recarga, por otra parte por mucho que el vehículo sea de cero emisiones, si la electricidad la tenemos que obtener a base de carbón no se puede decir que hayamos solucionado el problema.

That is why the invention patented by Jim Bardia, an inventor from Connecticut (USA), called Wind and Solar Tower seems so interesting, which, as its name indicates, is a tower that combines a wind turbine and solar panels in the same system, using a vertical axis turbine and installing self-cleaning solar panels on the top.

Por eso parece tan interesante el invento patentado por Jim Bardia, un inventor de Connecticut (USA), llamado Wind and Solar Tower que, como su nombre indica, es una torre que combina un aerogenerador y paneles solares en el mismo sistema, utilizando una turbina de eje vertical e instalando paneles solares auto-limpiables en la parte superior.

The tower has a permanent magnet levitation system that eliminates much of the friction and this allows it to obtain energy with winds of only eight kilometers per hour. It also has an eight-speed sequential transmission system that allows the turbine to adapt to the type of wind that blows at all times.

La torre posee un sistema de levitación por imanes permanentes que elimina gran parte de la fricción y esto le permite obtener energía con vientos de tan solo ocho kilómetros por hora, además posee un sistema de transmisión secuencial de ocho velocidades que permite a la turbina adaptarse al tipo de viento que sopla en cada momento.

With this generator it achieves an efficiency of 92.3%, which makes it considerably superior to common generators, which achieve between 50 and 60% efficiency.
If this were not enough, each tower has batteries attached that can store up to 1 megawatt to distribute when weather conditions are not favorable.

Con esto generador consigue una eficiencia del 92.3%, lo que lo hace considerablemente superior a los generadores comunes, que consiguen entre el 50 y 60% de eficiencia.
Si esto no fuese suficiente, cada torre lleva acopladas unas baterías que pueden almacenar hasta 1 megawatio para distrubuir cuando las condiciones climáticas no sean favorables

The first prototype of this system is 18 m high and 13.5 m in diameter, and incorporates about 140 m2 of solar panels in its upper part. Furthermore, according to its creator, it is very adaptable and can be installed in gas stations, supermarkets or other facilities; they are even designing a smaller system for the home.

El primer prototipo de este sistema tiene un tamaño de 18 m de altura y 13,5 m de diámetro, e incorpora unos 140 m2 de paneles solares en su parte superior. Además, según su creador, es muy adaptable y puede instalarse tanto en gasolineras como en supermercados u otras instalaciones, incluso están diseñando un sistema más pequeño para el hogar.

The approximate final cost will be about $80,000 per charger and each tower carries six, so the cost of each tower would be about $480,000. The system is not yet in production but is looking for interested partners.
In short, as its inventor indicates, it is "like having a gas station with your own oil well."

El coste final aproximado será de unos $80.000 cada cargador y cada torre lleva seis por lo que el coste de cada torre sería de unos $480.000. El sistema aún no está en producción pero está buscando socios interesados.
En definitiva, como su inventor indica, es "como tener una gasolinera con tu propio pozo de petróleo".
