I think most of us noticed that sometimes we learn some valuable information, that could potentially help us reach our goals, or become our greatest version, but for some reason it doesn't seem to stick. Maybe you are learning about love, or compassion, or science, or letting go. Your mind is enlightened by this new book you just bought and you are eager to experience change in your life, and one month later you realize that nothing really happened. Maybe you can still remember some stuff from the book, but you haven't experienced the changes that you expected. So how can we actually create sustainable change?
Let's take an example. You're reading this new book on spirituality or quantum physics, or whichever you like. As you're reading the book your neocortex is physically changing. When you review it and you think about it, the contemplation process begins to seal the connections. This is the first step, acquiring philosophical or theoretical information. (most people stop here)
When you take this new information and apply it and initiate it, now you have to modify your behaviors by stepping out of your comfort zone and put the information to practice. You have to change your action, and the new experience enriches the brain neurologically. Now you begin to add new connections to the semantic information that you learn, and now you have more circuits in place that's mapping the experience through your senses. Then there is an emotional component that's created from the limbic brain, and all of a sudden if you get your behaviors to match your intentions, or your actions are equal to your thoughts, then you should have a new experience and create a new emotion, and you should FEEL more spiritual, you should FEEL more compassionate, you should FEEL more in love with life, you should FEEL more in touch with the spiritual aspect of you, and the moment you feel that emotion, now you're teaching your body chemically to understand what your mind has intellectually understood. So knowledge is for the mind and experience is for the body. We could say in that moment you're embodying knowledge and you're literally signaling genes in new ways and you're beginning to change the expression not only in the brain, but also in the body.
The new experience means that you have a neurochemical change taking place where mind and body are aligned, but the mastery of that philosophical information after you initiate it is the repetition of it, to be able to reproduce the experience at will, and if you can do it enough times then you begin to create networks of neurons that you can activate on command and you can bring up the emotion from the experience and when you align how you think and how you feel, that's called a state of being. You just wired your experience into an automatic program. Now you no longer know the theoretical information, you ARE that information. Now you ARE in love with life, you ARE spiritual, you ARE compassionate. You have neurochemically conditioned your body to become what you've learned. MIND AND BODY ARE NOW ALIGNED.
