For the laymen who aren't afraid of a very small amount of math, the reason pH can be negative is because the term pH is essentially shorthand for - log(x) where the x is the concentration of H+ in solution. If the concentration is super, duper high, this can drive pH to negative values.
Haha
Really nice !!! You are right, I should add this part which makes more sense ;)
I am sure you have to use a huge face mask before you can open this bottle up right? What are the uses of such an acidic acid?
Haha not really. I was working in a funehood and filiming this far from my operation haha
It actually rarely used alone in organic chemistry. We used to convert them to triflic anhydride and work with them, as they somehow resembles bromide/iodide properties ~
dunno why the first thing that pops up my mind is @acidyo , maybe was his gif banner XD
I recall he have a cartoon pouring some sort of chemicals out of a conical flask XD
Omg,
XD
The most superior acid to all other Lewis and Brønsted acids tested.
useful post, thank you for the informations but i wish the post was longer to give more informations about this acid and its uses.
There are actually still more even stronger super acid. As a post for layman, I just try to make it not too long, but that is a good suggestion.
In particular, the acid alone dont have much application in organic chemistry. We used to prepare triflic anhydride from that and use it for synthesis. Triflate group is so interesting that it somewhat resembles bromide/iodide, which makes it relevant to us~
Nice post beautiful
Thanks ~
