To show that light is necessary for Photosynthesis...

Materials Required

Two similar potted plants, boiling tube, beaker, iodine solution, burner, petri-dish and 70% ethanol

Procedures...

  • Place two potted plant in a cupboard of dark room for 2days
  • Pluck a leaf from each plant and test the leaf for starch and confirm starch absence
  • Place one plant in bright sunlight for at least 4 hours, leaf the second potted plant as the control in dark cupboard or room
  • Take one leaf from the potted plant in the sun and the leaf from the potted plant in the dark, mark each pot for identification...

INFERENCE

Starch is present in the leaf exposed to sunlight but absent in the control plant.

CONCLUSION

It shows that light is necessary for Photosynthesis
