The Sahara is around 2-3 million years old, having started around the same time as the Ice Ages did. So, uh, yeah, it's been providing nutrients in the form of windborn dust to the Amazon for longer than the human race has been around, let alone human civilization.

No, I said the Fertile Crescent was rendered into a desert by irrigation by the ancient Mesopotamians. Fun fact, there weren't any Sumerians farming in the Sahara.
