RE: Metacognitive Functioning Is Enhanced By Blocking The Hormone Noradrenaline

in #science8 years ago

Interesting topic and interesting article. But this is quite opposite of the fact that many ADHD medications which also increases cognition and short time memory(adderal , ritalin or even modafinil) , actually increases noradrenaline and dopamine in certain areas of the brain as far as I know. The improvement of cognitive function from these drugs most likely comes from increased dopaminergic activity.

Metacognition refers to cognitive awareness, not direct thought in and of itself. It's more like he ability to judge the quality of your own thoughts. Where as ADHD medications are boosting information processing itself. The question to draw from this, is what effect on metacognition, does an ADHD medication have?

ah ok. sorry . I simply mistook metacognition for just cognition. Yeah ADHD medications are good for cognition while boosting information processing. I am not sure if it has any effect on metacognition. But thanks anyway, great article. And I am searching for more on metacognition to read now.
