Midnight our fantasies are among the many mysteries of the brain that continues to confound scientists. One question remains, however, stands out above all others: How do blind people dream?
A study published in Sleep Medicine in 2014, examines the "sensory structure of dreams" among blind people in their desire to find the answer, writes iflscience . Neuroscientists from the University of Copenhagen gather 25 people - 11 of them are blind from birth, and 14 - have lost their eyesight after 1 year of age. Within four weeks they interviewed participants in connection with their dreams and make them complete a structured diary of dreams every day upon waking.
The log contains all sorts of questions - what form accept what they see in their dreams, I dream nightmares, etc.
The study found that blind people experience far richer and more varied emotions in their dreams than any other. For example, for sound, touch, taste and smell. Seers in turn remembered mostly visual sensations in his sleep.
Those who have lost their sight later in life (and have seen the world in one way or another) claim to have any visual dreams. The study notes that many of these participants describe an object or scene verbally so rich visual terms that the interviewer began to wonder if these people really can not see. Alas - the longer they were blind, so shorter is their memory and visual impressions are foggy.
Emotions and themes more or less common. There were no fundamental differences in the groups in terms of positive and negative social situations for which they dreamed.
Scientists observed that the nightmares occurred significantly more often in people blind from birth. These primarily include loss, hit by car, loss of guide dog or falling into a hole. The researchers speculated that these dreams act as "shock absorbers" to the concerns that these people experience every day.

Always wondered how blind people chose the clothes to wear, know if they have a bad hair day and other little things we take for granted. Never thought about dreams....thank you!
