Yep, It is a Beta Blocker, aka an antagonist against β-adrenoceptor which is how it functions to calm you, preventing the binding of noradrenaline and adrenaline and weakening heart muscle contraction among other things. In the case of this research the more interesting binding target is its weaker interaction with α1-adrenoceptor. Not potent enough there to drastically influence binding of noradrenaline, but perhaps enough to deal with an imbalance (too much in this case).
