Soon, it just won't be worth it to satisfy our energy needs through the wasteful extraction of dead plants and animals. Futurist Michio Kaku defines a "Type I Civilizaiton" as:
"[A] species who has been able to harness all the energy that is available from a neighboring star, gathering and storing it to meet the energy demands of a growing population."
And we're getting there too. Here are some recent stories from the unstoppable wake of renewable energy:
🏂 A recent report on the economics of solar power in Colorado shows that solar is cheaper than coal and has been for quite some time.
🌴 A new development in Florida will rely completely on solar energy while others are still working out the best ways to co-op solar in their communities.
🇮🇸 Iceland has been 100% renewable for quite some time, relying 75% on hydroelectric and 25% on geothermal. In fact, Iceland is now home to a "negative emissions" plant --- turning Carbon Dioxide into stone.
We're just scratching the surface, folks.
🌟 Open Source for the win. A group in Eryri, North Wales has released an energy-monitoring platform for the home and is giving away the plans for free. A software developer in New Zealand has made it easy to monitor your renewables from anywhere with internet.
😎 You gotta recognize! The journal of Energy and Environmental science states that wind, solar, and storage could meet most of America's electricity needs. Bloomberg admits that electric cars may be cheaper than gas guzzlers in seven years.
Ta Ta For Now,
I'm happy you could join me for the fourth issue of The Resilient Review.
This was released Tuesday instead of the usual Monday release day. I'm not sure if anyone will actually notice, but I thought I'd mention it to be thorough.
I simplified the format today so it should be a little easier to skim. Let me know what you think! Last week's article was the most successful publication I've released --- garnering over 50 reads 🆒 🆒 🆒.
Don't hesitate to reach out at [email protected] with corrections, notes of affection, or if you'd like to write for the publicaiton.
Nick
