The frozen water on asteroids may be a more natural thing than previously thought, according to new research that will help support the idea that asteroids carry key life to Earth.

Water ice and organic molecules that help form the foundation of life have been found in a second asteroid called Cybele 65 by astronomers.

The discovery was reported at a meeting of planetary scientists in Pasadena, where scientists say that the presence of ice supports the theories that say life on Earth comes from outer space after being brought here by asteroids.

The researchers got the same discovery in April this year when they discovered the first evidence of ice on an asteroid named Themis 24.

Both these asteroids and recent discoveries were found on the asteroid belt that lies between Mars and Jupiter.

"This discovery indicates that our solar system has more water ice content than expected," said Professor Humberto Campins, an astronomer at the University of Central Florida who led the research team as reported by the Telegraph.

"This supports the theory that asteroids may hit the Earth while carrying water supplies and life-building blocks to form and evolve on our planet."

Professor Campins presented his findings at the annual meeting of the Planet Science Division of the American Society of Astronomy in Pasadena, California.

The Cybele 65 asteroid 289 km in diameter is somewhat larger than the Themis 24 asteroid with a diameter of 199 km.
