This discipline is very beautiful and interesting, as it results from a series of natural and repetitive processes in time, where rain, rivers, seas, wind erosion, tectonic movements, etc. intervene. The sediment, are those clayey materials and small quartz crystals that have the rocks exposed to the surface, they are moved by the currents of the rivers and seas, or by the wind, forming layers of this material, which precipitate and settle in a different way depending on the weight of the particles (the heavier ones sediment the bottom and the lighter ones sediment the top). During a field tour, I had the opportunity to capture and feel one of these sediment samples in one of the river tributaries of Boca de Uchire, in the north of Venezuela, to achieve this goal we went by boat (it was a very fun trip among colleagues).
The photo shows a small sample of the center of this river channel, using a granulometric meter, we can differentiate the different types of grain sizes, giving an idea of the energy that these currents present.
Then, continuing with the study of the different structures, we took the opportunity to visualize a cut located on one side of the road, we were struck by the structures that were visible to passers-by, of course, whoever knows about this subject can visualize in detail what this geological footprint can give us, data of events that occurred millions of years ago, and that are currently repeated, since these geological events are cyclical, so the rocks are very valuable, because it is very valuable, because it is fossil traces that allow us to investigate the climatic conditions, fauna and flora that existed billions of years ago, allowing us to know the present and predict the events that will occur in the future.
This discipline is very extensive, in the oil industry it is very valuable, I particularly love it, since you learn a little bit from everything, I hope you liked this little preamble to sedimentology.
I hope you liked my summary of this branch of geology.
